Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus 'Padmaavat', starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor has created history at the overseas box office. The fictional periodic film has recorded the highest opening weekend for a Bollywood film with a collection of $11.60 million, according to a report on BoxofficeIndia.com.

'Padmaavat' set cash counters ringing over the weekend and reportedly earned an estimated $10.59 million and an additional $1 million from paid preview shows. The film thus dethroned 'Dhoom 3' which had an opening weekend collection of $10.32 million. According to reports, the film that saw Deepika play the role of the Goddess queen Rani Padmavati, is only the second Bollywood movie to cross the $10 million mark in its first three-days overseas.

Reports claim that the 3D release played a big role in helping the film claim the top stop. US and Canada were the best markets for the film as it recorded an all-time record of $4.43 million over the weekend.

'Padmaavat' now sits on the top of the highest opening charts followed by 'Dhoom 3', 'Sultan' with a collection of $9.45 million, 'Dilwale' at '$8.52 million and 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' rounding off the fifth position with a collection of $8.12 million.
