Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kangana Ranaut and Imtiaz Ali attended the HT Leadership Summit 2015 recently. The two ladies were in conversation with director Imtiaz Ali, who even introduced Kareena as “the boarding school head girl who always failed in her maths exam.” LOL!

The two actresses have completely different stories of how they came into the industry and how they were brought up, yet when they spoke, we heard voices from two different mindsets that proved that two different people might actually make a great team.

Check out some highlights from the summit!

1) On their upbringing

Kangana: Growing up, I was under a lot of pressure, and I couldn’t live up to it. I felt my parents wanted me to be someone else, felt like I couldn’t reach out to them. I realised that chances of me becoming a doctor were bleak. Father suggested I become a teacher.

Kareena: My teacher made me believe there is a lot more than films in life. At one point, I wanted to be a lawyer, but I’m happy I realised my passion for acting.
2) On their first steps into acting

Kareena: My first acting project was a play, Dulari Bai, where I played a 16-year-old boy. I continued following my dream and I think I am a good actor. My parents couldn’t handle the brat I was. I used to ogle at Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan when I was young.
Kangana: I did a play with Arvind Gaur within a week of working backstage with him. When I started out, I went where life took me, but later I could feel strong discrimination.

3) On mixing art with glamour

Kangana: Audience is ready for films where art is combined with glamour.

4) On “intolerance”

5) Switching between real and reel life

Kangana: Shootings are not a very pleasant experience. You’re always creating things that aren’t real. By the time a film gets over, it becomes difficult to differentiate between real & reel life. You live in a cocoon of your personality and suddenly you are asked to be someone you are not.
Kareena: I can switch off and switch on for a film. But that doesn’t make me a cold person.

6) Their subtle sense of humour

Kangana: I really hope that I never get a script which has a snake in it.
Kareena: Everyone wants to forget Akshay Kumar’s Talaash.

7) On changing after marriage

Kareena: I don’t think I have become reserved after marriage. I am still the same. I am the last person to be reserved.

8) On money and showbiz

Kangana: The character and budget of the film should be considered while demanding the pay. It’s a myth that we are minting money. We do contribute to various platforms. Just like you can’t fight an election for charity, we can’t make a film for charity.

9) And how do they want to be remembered?

Kareena: I would never like to be forgotten.

Kangana: I don’t care how I am remembered, I just want to know how I remember people.
